“I still look better today than I looked four years ago before the surgery,” she said. Piombino, who is Hispanic, is part of a growing trend of ethnic patients undergoing cosmetic surgery.

“About 20 percent of our practice involves various different ethnicities, Hispanics, African-Americans, Asians and other minorities,” said McCafferty, a board member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, based in New York City. “I think it just mirrors what’s going on in the rest of the country.”

Nearly 11.5 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were done last year, 20 percent of which were conducted on racial and ethnic minorities, according to the ASAPS.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER has blasted newspaper reports he underwent cosmetic surgery – but jokes it wouldn’t be a bad idea. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA creator, 58, recently underwent surgery to repair a damaged tear duct in his eye but the operation was misconstrued by the media. He explains, “I know some people have suggested it was a cosmetic operation, but trust me it wasn’t. “In retrospect maybe I should have had more done while I was under the knife! But, as you can see, I didn’t.”
